When it comes to eco-friendly fashion, I think there are many misconceptions still out there.  If you think that wearing sustainable clothing means dresses made from burlap sacks and pants from old newspapers – you couldn’t be more wrong!  To quell your eco-fashion misconceptions you need only step into Body Politic, located at 208 East 12th Avenue in Vancouver.

Owned by the equally adorable Nicole Ritchie-Oseen, Body Politic is a fabulous eco-fashion boutique that shows you don’t have to sacrifice style to be sustainable. Nicole wanted to open a boutique that was ethical, sustainable, organic and stylish – and boy did she hit the mark!  This store is filled with amazing clothing; you would never know it was all eco-friendly fashion.  The clothing has the same look and feel as ‘regular’ clothing.  The designers and manufacturers just thought of the environment first.  This could mean using reclaimed fabrics or fewer chemicals, using less water when manufacturing, etc.  It all looks the same in the end; it’s just the process that’s different.

Body Politic stocks some of the most decadent eco-designers like Lav & Kush, Nicole Bridger, Feral Childe, Noir Bonbon, She-Bible and dozens of others.  Not only are the clothes eco-friendly, but the store itself is too.  The boutique is furnished with repurposed antiques and uses energy efficient lighting – even the bags are recycled.
